Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion

Published 1984 — still the gold standard on human behaviour

I picked this up because I've always been curious about what really drives human connection — what makes conversations click, what triggers people emotionally, and why we respond the way we do.

One thing that hit me early: Cialdini describes how a mother turkey will only nurture her chick if it makes the right sound. Remove that sound, and she ignores it — even attacks it. It sounds extreme until you realise humans work the same way. We run on automatic responses, patterns wired deep in our subconscious that fire before we even think.

As someone who works in real estate and finance, that's directly applicable. People don't make decisions with spreadsheets — they make them with feelings, then justify with facts. Understanding those automatic patterns changes everything about how you show up in a conversation.

Becoming Your Own Banker by Nelson Nash

Nelson R. Nash

Becoming Your Own Banker

The foundational book on the Infinite Banking Concept

The book that changed how I think about money entirely. Nash lays out why you are always financing something — and why it should be through yourself, not a bank. It's the reason I work with Infinite Banking clients today.
